Delhi’s first automated tower parking site opened in Green Park. The four new-era towers will be able to park 136 cars at a time. Central power minister R K Singh and lieutenant governor Anil Baijal inaugurated the 17-storey parking facility. It was inaugurated through video conferencing. One tower of the half finished project had been inaugurated by Union urban affairs minister Hardeep Puri on January 2 in the run-up to the assembly elections. Singh said that the project will help in containing pollution in the area. He offered expertise, consultancy and help of his ministry to boost innovative actions in future. He also expressed hope that the projects being executed by his ministry in and around Delhi will help in accelerating the pace of development in the city. Baijal said that vertical parking spaces like this are the most appropriate for congested markets and populated colonies as it requires just 1.5 sq metre space to park a car in comparison to 30 sq metre required for conventional parking.
